This is a strangely shaped rock near the Xilosirtis village at Ikaria island. According to a local myth this used to be a living person, a mother who was waiting for her son to return from a far away land. She was spending endless hours, gazing at the sea. Some day she heard that her son's ship vanished. She was so devastated that God felt sorry for her and decided to turn her to stone at the spot she had spent so much time waiting for her child. Some optimists say that she came back to life when her son finally returned!
