Zeus -known as Jupiter in ancient Rome- sitting on his throne at the highest mountain peak in Greece, and on the top, Selene the most appropriate crown for the king of gods! In Greek mythology, Olympus was regarded as the 'home of the gods'. The shape and position of this peak, today known as 'Mitikas', inspired the ancient Greeks to think of it as the throne and home of Zeus. The 11 shot panorama displays the full Moon, Jupiter and Mitikas in a rare conjunction. This impressive Olympus peak is the highest in Greece at 2,919 meters (9,577 feet). After an exhausting 9 hour climbing during the night on the top of Greece, forced to climb slowly as my flashlight went off when I was halfway, I arrived just in time, to see this spectacular scene. |
